The Standards Working Group (SWG) is AFIAAR’s dedicated platform for engaging with international auditing and ethics standard-setting processes and ensuring African perspectives shape the adoption and implementation of these standards. The working group supports sound audit oversight and ethical conduct across the continent by aligning global standards with local realities.
Purpose
The A&ESWG was established to:
- Provide a forum for dialogue on pronouncements from the IAASB and IESBA.
- Promote the adoption of auditing and ethics standards that reflect Africa’s unique regulatory, economic, and market contexts.
- Influence the development and amendment of global standards from an African perspective.
- Support consistent, ethical, and high-quality auditing practices that enhance trust in financial markets and institutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and assess draft and final standards from IAASB and IESBA.
- Provide endorsement advice to AFIAAR member jurisdictions.
- Facilitate technical consultations with regulators, audit firms, PAOs, and investors.
- Monitor global trends in auditing and ethics and assess their implications for Africa.
- Support capacity building through training, technical guidance, and implementation support.
- Promote alignment with global best practices while maintaining local relevance.
